Now you thought that Yura would be dead….Bam my favourite animated awesomeness moment among all moments of that episode that make my day. Oh yeah! Night!Rikuo appearing to unsuspecting Ryuji in Ink-Style animations.

I was screaming my lungs out cuz it looks so fanatstic.Period

Studio DEEN have heard my wishes on moar ink-style animations and I am really happy and it deserves a star for the best animated awesomeness moment ever.

Now I am partying like a rockstar now.

Gawd i am officially a convert to the Keikan Bros because of the awesomeness of that episode. You wonder why-here is the review of that episode.
Episode 2:Their Justice. We all started with a shortened version of the Jami Arc(Those who are not manga readers read it! (link) ) when Rikuo exposed those fraud Omyoji and a Sakazuki with Jami. I am the little sad that the arc was cut short cuz it’s pretty good. I think the director wanted to cut it because it speeds things up. I am glad they include it. (May I add I just love the animators animated that ‘Ougi’ the still sakura petal dissolves to a ferocious attack-simply stunning. So here is animated awesomeness moment no 1)With that behind, this light-hearted moment was contrasted with Yura practicing really hard in an abandoned buliding. I must say it was animated awesomeness moment no 2-Yura Synthesis is amazing and the cinematography of the shooting was wonderfully planned. Now we have our favourite duo-Kurotabou and Aotabou met some impresenators in a bar.And there these guys meet their dreadful end with the first appearance of the Keikan bros. Seriously that scene was amazing-the lighting, music and of course the voice was perfect to introduce us to the awesomeness of the Keikan Brothers ;)I really like the dynamics of their relationship-(Kurotabou/Aotabou) It kinda remind me of Wolverine/Cyclops of Xmen for some odd reason. And when they talked about the sucess-I love the old guitar strumming(Kinda remind me of Paris,Texas for some odd reason) and its simplistic flashbacks. I think it works so brillantly because a single picture tells me a 1000 words from the carefree prankster Rikuo we knew in Episode 1 (The Third Awakens one) to that pivotal moment when Rikuo defeated Tamazuki (I was upset and ranting that they should reanimate the Shikoku arc!) Seriously the use of colours was brillant here to shows Rikuo’s growth as a leader. And yes I laughed quite hard on Kurotabou receiving the attention from the ladies,a perfect break from the seriousness of that conversation and poor Aotabou did not get any. Again,it was one of the little moments which perhaps the director’s strength-humourous moments. Now another animated awesomeness moment no 3-Th fight between the Keikan brothers and Aotabou. Seriously it was brillantly done, the fluidity and the music really bring some tense moments-I really like Mamiru’s lighting attacks and Ryuji’s too. I have a feeling the director is notching things up in animation-wise. You know it’s gonna get better eh?Another light-hearted moment of finding Yura which was rather hilarious. I really like how Yura’s psyche was conflicted between her past experiences in meeting Night!Rikuo. These flashbacks are simple just visuals of her being saved by a mysterious youkai and his clan-but it brings to us what was Yura thinking. Could all youkai be evil? Is her ability useless? To me it was perfect. Nicely done.We could see her increasing doubt on Rikuo even more (and a foreshadowing technique) was the overlap of Night!Rikuo with Day!Rikuo-again brillantly composed animation again. Just to show her conflict whenever Rikuo was a youkai beneath that human exterior.Again the Kakkoii brothers came again to Yura’s training avenue. And her nightmares came true when her bro Ryuji told the secret. Got to be the ‘Le no~’ scene of Nura, the cinematography is amazing here-It’s so intense especially the closeup panning. The horror and doubt mixed in Yura’s eyes is brillantly and the attack of Human rikuo was brilliant *another animated awesomeness moement-echos my love of ink drawings in Nura*That scene of Yura asking Rikuo if he was human was again-nice cinematography:you could see in her eyes that she was unsure of Rikuo and feel the doubt. Again this is getting more intense. Now for some sweet animated awesomeness:the battle between Yura and Ryuji was really top-notch and the music is perfect. That totally amazed me of the Keikan power with that animation-never ever underestimate them yo~ The sheer detail of it was brilliant with the fusion of the shikingami on Yura (The music is great too)Now when you thought that Yura is gonna die with great cinematography. Bam! I have a feeling that Studio Deen must have hear my plea for moar ink-style animation and did it. This scene when strokes of ink surrounded Ryuji was the winner of the animated awesomeness moment hands down~This scene was beyond perfect-it was beautiful and a great cliffhanger to round off an awesome episode. Now to the ending: Orange Smile by Katae Size.Erm..let me say while it was pretty cute to see all of the Nura gals to do some shopping y’all but I find it a little boring and rather too generic-Please Studio Deen get some new artists for Nura ending!!! So the song was a pass for me and Victorique agrees with meNow for my thoughts: I am really surprised by the animation quality of Episode 2. Seriously it could be mistaken for a BONES animation project(incase you are wondering what is BONES,it’s a studio in Japan which did aniamtion projects like Ouran High and FMA) to the point I have goosebumps. The pacing was way better than Episode 1 despite some cutbacks on the Jami Arc. And kudos to Konishi-San (Ryuji Keikan) for doing such an awesome job on the acting. The voice is perfect and it reminds of Toru-San in his acting as Roy Mustang(FMA 2003). That voice was perfect for Ryuji. And from the preview, now I am really excited for episode 3.
Now a rundown of my thoughts
Good-Great animation especially the battle scenes, better pacing than Episode 1-get the viewers to whet for more and Ryuji steals the show with Konishi-san’s great acting.
Bad-The Jami Arc should be a wee bit longer(Please producers do an OVA on that arc-I am begging you) and my advice to the composer-be consistent. As much I really like the music-wished it could be similar, because you have visual eye-candy and mismatched music. it might as well be a bad episode.
Rating:4 1/2 scares-Great episode,Love the animation, pacing and the acting of the Keikan brothers but music can be a little inconsistent at times. Well done Studio DEEN animators. Looking forward to next week :)
